Amid the haze in Kalimantan, thousands of volunteers and firefighters are battling on the front lines, risking their strength and safety to fight the raging fires and billowing smoke. One of them is timcegahapigreenpeace.⁣

The difficulty of accessing fire sites is no reason to give up. They often have to trek through the forest, ride boats, and carry heavy pumps and rolls of hose to reach fire hotspots and sources of smoke far from populated areas.⁣
⁣
Their work often goes unnoticed. There are no cameras constantly following their every move. But in the midst of burning forests and fields, they keep moving against the fire, the smoke, and the clock.⁣
⁣
This year’s crisis has once again shown that haze is not merely a matter of wind direction or weather. Smoke can indeed be carried by the wind across cities, islands, and even national borders. However, the root of the problem remains the same: recurring fires—particularly in peatlands and forested areas—and the failure to ensure that prevention, monitoring, and law enforcement are carried out effectively.⁣

Putting out fires is a frontline battle.⁣
⁣
But preventing them from the start is a government responsibility that must not be neglected.⁣
