After 35 years on Freeport’s Nautical Mile, Sea Horse Gift Shop is preparing to close its doors.

Owner Mike Kaland said declining foot traffic, online shopping and changes in the retail industry have made it difficult to keep the longtime family business going.

“We hate to see it have to go,” Kaland said. “But it can't be kept open anymore.”
