#TSRLocalLens: Two women underwent emergency brain surgery within six days of each other after riding the X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, according to a CNN investigation.

On July 5, 40-year-old #PamelaGuillen reportedly hit her head repeatedly against the ride’s headrest. She began vomiting, later lost consciousness and underwent surgery to relieve brain swelling. She reportedly did not fully regain consciousness for about two weeks.

Six days later, 25-year-old #NaomiGreerWilkinson lost consciousness after riding X2 and also required emergency brain surgery. According to CNN, she remained in a coma and on a ventilator at the time of its report.

X2, which features rotating seats and reaches speeds of nearly 80 mph, has been closed since July 12 while California regulators conduct an inspection. Six Flags has not said what prompted the closure.

CNN reports the coaster has been linked to more than a dozen serious injuries and hospitalizations since opening in 2002. In 2022, 22-year-old #ChristopherHawley passed away from a traumatic brain injury after riding X2. An expert hired by his family later said Six Flags’ internal records showed at least 70 head or neck injury complaints connected to the ride in the three years before his passing.

Six Flags has previously defended X2 in court, arguing that riders are warned of potential risks and that the ride’s forces are not strong enough to cause traumatic brain injuries when used as instructed. 🙏🏾 (📸: gettyimages) ✍🏾: #TSRStaffLG
