Every year we simultaneously bite our nails in anxiety and tap our feet in excitement at the thought of the fall semester’s start. But even after so much anticipation, it almost always takes students by surprise when the streets of Berkeley suddenly overflow with new voices and faces. This fall, the people are accompanied by the soundtrack of whirring drills and clanging hammers as we continue to expand our campus beyond its origins.

Just as the scaffolding is erected around campus, you too will become part of the ongoing construction of UC Berkeley, shaping the conversations and communities that make this school what it is. Consider this issue less of an instruction manual and more of an unfinished blueprint, guiding you to build your own version of the UC Berkeley experience. Campus is constantly changing, and this issue reflects that — from the endless possibilities of your mini fridge to the ever-changing landscape of AI.
