Coming from a trainer of 15 years, these aren’t just 5 random hip exercises they represent the 5 primary ways your hip needs to move. Building strength in each function creates a more balanced, capable hip that can handle everyday movement, training, and athletic demands.

1. HIP ADDUCTION - Moving your leg IN
Strengthening your inner thighs helps control your leg and pelvis when you walk, run, squat, and change direction. It gives the hip stability from the inside out.

2. HIP FLEXION - Bringing your leg FORWARD
Your hip flexors help lift your leg and control the position of your pelvis. Strengthening them helps you better control movements like walking, running, stepping, and climbing.

3. HIP ROTATION - Turning your leg IN & OUT
Your hips need to rotate every time you change direction, pivot, run, or even turn your body. Training rotation improves your ability to control those forces instead of relying on other joints to compensate.

4. HIP ABDUCTION - Moving your leg OUT
Your lateral hip muscles help stabilize your pelvis and keep your leg aligned when you’re standing on one leg. They’re especially important for walking, running, lunging, and maintaining balance.

5. HIP EXTENSION - Driving your leg BACK
This is where your glutes really shine. Strong hip extension helps you generate force for running, jumping, climbing, and getting up from a chair while contributing to a strong, powerful posterior chain.

The goal isn’t just to have strong hips in one direction. It’s to build strength across the entire range of how your hips move creating better balance, control, stability, and capacity.
