"500 shots today." 🏀 Cool — but how many of those shots will you actually get in a game?

Most players warm up, catch a pass with nobody around, and fire away. No defender. No fatigue. No decision attached. That's not practice — that's a driveway shot wearing a jersey.

Pros don't train that way. They study film, find the exact situations they face in games, and rebuild those situations in the gym — pressure and all.

This week's Think the Game Thursday breaks down what deliberate practice actually looks like, and why "how many shots did I make?" is the wrong question. The right one:

"How many game situations did I prepare for?"

For Players: Before every drill this week, ask — "What game situation is this preparing me for?" Can't answer it? Change the drill.

For Coaches: Volume isn't the goal. Build reps that mirror the fatigue, closeouts, and decisions your guys will actually see Friday night.

For Parents: Skip the critique tonight. Just ask — "What did you do to align your training with your aspirations today?" Then let them sit with it.

One smart basketball idea every Thursday that makes you better by the weekend. Full breakdown — link in bio 🔗 or https://bit.ly/4gmSWLj
