Arsenal’s Premier League title defense is officially underway and the Gunners wasted no time making a statement.

Arsenal defeated newly promoted Coventry City 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the opening match of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 15th minute, Bukayo Saka doubled the lead just eight minutes later, and captain Martin Ødegaard made it 3-0 shortly after halftime.

For Coventry City, this was a historic night regardless of the result. The Sky Blues were back in the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, but their first test couldn’t have been much tougher: away at the home of the defending champions.

I made the trip to the Emirates to experience the match and talk with BOTH Arsenal and Coventry supporters before and after the game.

Before kickoff, Arsenal fans told me what they expect from the defending champions this season, who they believe will be their biggest competition for the title, and whether this squad is capable of going back-to-back.

Coventry supporters had a very different perspective. After waiting 25 years to see their club return to the Premier League, what are their expectations for the season? Is simply surviving enough, or can Coventry establish themselves back in the top flight?

Then after Arsenal’s dominant 3-0 victory, I went back to the fans to see if any opinions had changed.
