Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected from Sunday’s Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever game after a heated confrontation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

The incident comes amid an increasingly contentious debate over transgender athletes in women’s sports. Freedom and former NBA player Royce White recently declared themselves eligible for the WNBA draft, saying they identify as women.

The WNBA responded by saying there are currently no transgender eligibility issues affecting the league and denounced what it called “bad-faith” efforts by Kanter and White to use the issue to demean or marginalize others.
