🌊 Water sustains people, ecosystems and livelihoods, generates clean energy and shapes our landscapes. But desertification, drought, flooding and coastal erosion can have devastating consequences for communities.

🛰️ Space can help us protect this precious resource. Satellite data helps us monitor water resources, detect changes and anticipate droughts and floods, to help communities prepare, respond and adapt.
 
🇺🇳Here’s 4 ways UNOOSA is putting space to work for water:
 
1️⃣ Space4Water connects countries and experts with space-based tools, knowledge and training, with a strong focus on developing countries.
 
2️⃣ UN-SPIDER helps countries use satellite data before, during and after water-related disasters.
 
3️⃣ The Space4Ocean Alliance, for which UNOOSA is a founding member and Secretariat, brings together 32 space-related entities to advance the use of space-based solutions for marine challenges.
 
4️⃣ Digital twins combine satellite imagery and elevation data to create interactive 3D models of islands and cities, helping decision-makers better understand and simulate flooding.
