In a press conference Monday morning, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he "very much opposed" Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn's proposed reforms to the Party's voting system.⁠

Bichotte Hermelyn's reforms aim to increase the number of voters in the Party's electoral system. Some Party reformers and elected officials have criticized the reforms, saying they're a way for Bichotte Hermelyn to maintain control of the Party in its next election, which will happen in the fall.⁠

In 2012, then-Party Chair Vito Lopez made similar reforms and added votes, which allowed him to remain Party Chair despite criticism of his leadership.⁠
