I was so excited to check out the new path recently opened behind Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada, never imagining the accident I was about to have. Sit comfortably, because this is a long story. 😂

I decided to skate and try out my rollerblades. I must say, I’m not a pro on rollerblades, but I ice skate in the winter without any problems, so what could go wrong, right?

I skated all the way to the end of the path without any issues. I was even filming myself while skating.

Then I turned around to head back. Right away, I noticed there was a gentle slope. At first, it was fun… until I started going fast. Faster and faster every second.

Whoa, whoa! I didn’t know how to stop!

I saw a garbage bin and thought, ‘Maybe I can crash into it to stop myself’. But I was going way too fast. Oh my God!

I remembered being in a similar situation on a slope at Camp Fortune while skiing. Back then, I managed to regain control by doing a “pizza,” so I tried doing the same thing with my rollerblades. It didn’t work! 😰

I was desperate and starting to panic. When I passed two bikers, they must have seen the horror on my face. 😂

And then I completely lost control, went full speed, and landed right on my bum. I bounced and ended up sprawled out on my side, basically hugging the ground.

I swear I felt every bone in my hips shake! It was so painful! 😓

I moved and lay down on my back. When the two bikers who had seen me lose control felt me hit the ground, they stopped and came over to check on me. They spoke to me in French. Luckily, I speak a little French.

They stayed with me for a while until I was able to sit up and then stand. I brushed myself off and walked back, very sore, though.

A week after the fall, it still hurts to sit down. Honestly, I got off pretty lightly. It could have been much worse. 😮‍💨

Going back to the new pathway, though, it’s so beautiful! It was closed for four years, and now it’s finally open for Ottawa residents to enjoy.

Would you check it out?
