Are McLaren golf clubs worth $3,000, or are golfers paying for Formula One branding? 🏎️ McLaren entered golf to test whether its high-performance engineering could produce a better iron.  Its first range includes the tour-inspired Series 1 and more forgiving Series 3, both built using metal injection moulding to control the shape, weighting and construction of each clubhead with exceptional precision. The launch has genuine credibility. Justin Rose helped develop the McLaren irons before putting them into competition, while Ian Poulter has also backed the brand. Independent testing found the Series 3 fast, forgiving and consistent, with performance capable of competing against leading players-distance irons. But that creates McLaren’s biggest problem: competitive performance isn’t revolutionary performance. At $375 per club, seven irons cost $2,625 and eight cost $3,000. Yet testing has revealed no decisive advantage over strong alternatives from Titleist, TaylorMade, PXG and other established golf-equipment brands - many of which cost substantially less. McLaren has proved it can make impressive golf clubs. It hasn’t proved that ordinary golfers will shoot lower scores by paying the premium. The price will probably keep these irons in the bags of wealthy F1 enthusiasts and golfers who value exclusivity - and without published sales figures, their commercial success remains unclear.
