🚨 Medicare is proposing a major cut to reimbursement for hip and knee replacements in 2027 — potentially approaching 20%. 🦴🏥

For perspective, these cuts are normally closer to 2% per year. 📉

Over the past 20 years, inflation-adjusted reimbursement for orthopedic surgery has already been cut by roughly 40% — while the costs of running a medical practice continue to rise. 💸📈

And Medicare cuts don’t happen in a vacuum. Other insurance companies often follow Medicare’s lead when setting their own reimbursement rates. 🏥➡️🏢

At the end of the day, my biggest concern is patient access to care. 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

If reimbursement continues to fall while the cost of providing care continues to rise, fewer physicians and facilities may be able or willing to provide hip and knee replacements to Medicare patients. ⚠️🦴

That could mean longer waits ⏳, fewer options for patients 🚪, and ultimately less access to medically necessary orthopedic treatments.

You can continue cutting reimbursement 📉…but eventually you may also be cutting access to care. 🏥
