#RobBurnside, former principal of #LakotaEast High School in #Ohio, learned that student Landerius “DeDe” Hayes was homeless and at risk of being withdrawn from school. He and his wife Angel opened their home to him.

When the district found out, Burnside was placed on leave and ultimately forced to resign in 2024. He said he owned any communication mistakes but stood by his decision: he simply cared about the kid.

The couple later became Landerius’s legal guardians. In May 2026, he graduated high school with Rob and Angel watching from the stands. He’s now training to become an aviation mechanic.

Burnside still struggles to find another principal role, but when asked if he’d do it again, his answer is clear: “What value can we put on the life of a young person?”
