URGENT: Congress is scheduled to vote on a bill next week that could doom critically endangered North Atlantic right whales to extinction.

Fewer than 400 of these whales remain on Earth, and entanglement in commercial fishing gear is one of the leading causes of their deaths. 

Even when it doesn't kill, entanglement can cause painful infection, deformative scarring, and extreme malnourishment. 

Despite a clear need for help, a 2022 budget bill rider has delayed NOAA Fisheries from being able to implement livesaving regulations to reduce entanglements through 2028. 

Since this rider, fishing gear has killed or injured more than 30 right whales. 

Next week Congress is set to vote on H.R. 9436, a bill that would extend the rider through 2035, once again delaying lifesaving action for right whales when they need it most. 

We urgently need you to tell your legislators to reject this deadly bill and to oppose any other efforts to delay protections for these critically endangered whales before it's too late.
