These are all traits Bill Willis exemplified throughout his life. Known not only as one of Ohio State's all-time great athletes, he is also considered the first African American starter in professional football. Bill Willis was everything a Buckeye is meant to be, and now this generation can carry his legacy from #99 - #0.

The number "O" is a badge of honor. It represents FIGHT - the backbone of our culture and the edge required as Buckeyes. Buckeyes constantly fight to be elite at what they do and who they do it with. It also represents toughness and accountability, a blue-collar personality which correlates with the program, the university, and the state of Ohio.

Each year, the number "O" IS given to the player that best displays these qualities, and the 2026 recipient is Brandon Inniss.
