📜 Sarajevo’s historic Vijecnica carries more than a century of history

🏛️ Built in the Andalusian style during the Austro-Hungarian era, it opened in 1896 as Sarajevo’s town hall before becoming the national library in 1945

🔥 Nearly 2 million books and manuscripts were destroyed when Serb forces shelled the building during the 1992 siege of Sarajevo

🕊️ Restored over 18 years, Vijecnica reopened in 2014 and now serves as a museum and symbol of the city’s resilience
