Meet the Mercedes-AMG ONE — a road-legal hypercar built with technology inspired directly by Formula 1.

The idea was completely insane:

Take F1 technology and somehow make it work in a road car.

The AMG ONE was first revealed in 2017, and even today, its design looks like something from the future.

At its heart is a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 hybrid power unit derived from Mercedes-AMG’s Formula 1 technology.

But the engine is only part of the story.

The AMG ONE uses four electric motors, advanced active aerodynamics and a lightweight carbon-fiber construction to turn the car into something much closer to a race car than a conventional road-going Mercedes.

The combined power output is over 1,000 horsepower, while the V6 can rev to around 11,000 rpm. 🤯

And getting this kind of technology into a road car wasn't easy.

A Formula 1 power unit is designed for racing, not for sitting in traffic, starting repeatedly, meeting road-car regulations and delivering long-term usability.

Mercedes-AMG had to overcome enormous engineering challenges to make the concept a reality.

Then there's the aerodynamics.

The AMG ONE features active aerodynamic elements that can change depending on the driving situation, helping optimize the balance between downforce and drag.

Even the shape of the body has a purpose.

The enormous rear wing, aggressive front aero, air channels and sculpted bodywork aren't just there to make the car look crazy.

They're designed around controlling airflow and keeping the car stable at high speeds.

Inside, the cockpit continues the Formula 1-inspired theme, with a steering wheel and driving position designed to make the driver feel much closer to a race car.

And that's what makes this car so special.

It's not simply a Mercedes with a huge engine.

It's a Formula 1-inspired powertrain, race-car aerodynamics and road-car engineering combined into one machine.
