It sounds completely ridiculous, but there’s actually a reason this scene became so iconic in the AI world.

Early AI video generators struggled with something humans do without thinking: understanding how objects interact with each other.

A simple scene of someone eating spaghetti could expose all kinds of problems.

Hands would have strange shapes.

Forks could bend or disappear.

Spaghetti might pass through fingers.

Noodles could randomly change position.

The mouth might move unnaturally.

And the food often behaved like it had completely ignored the laws of physics. 😂

That’s because generating realistic video isn't just about creating individual images.

The AI has to understand how objects should look and how they should behave over time.

With spaghetti, there are dozens of individual strands moving, a fork interacting with them, a hand holding the fork, a person moving their head and mouth, and everything has to remain consistent from frame to frame.

That makes the scene surprisingly difficult for an AI model.

So the internet turned the infamous AI-generated 

Will Smith spaghetti videos into a hilarious way of measuring progress.

The joke became simple:

If AI can finally make Will Smith eat spaghetti normally, AI has officially improved. 🍝😂

Of course, this isn't an official scientific AI benchmark.

Researchers use far more sophisticated evaluations.

But as an internet meme, it perfectly captured one of the biggest problems generative AI had to overcome: realistic motion and physical consistency.

And the progress has been insane.

What once looked completely broken can now be generated with increasingly realistic hands, objects, motion and interactions.

So somehow, one bowl of spaghetti became a symbol of how quickly AI video generation evolving.
