Is America's cheapest new electric truck actually worth it? Slate flew me out to their headquarters for the first-ever ride in the Slate Truck, and I got to sit down with chief engineer Eric to break the whole thing down. This is a $24,950 electric truck built on a blank slate — literally. One truck, three or four different body configurations, over 100 accessories, and a wrap system that lets you change the color of your entire vehicle for $500 instead of $2,500. The exterior panels are injection-molded fiberglass composite, so a fender bender means you pop the panel off, do a little bondo, and re-wrap it yourself. Here is what I found out driving it: Range is 205 miles on the single battery pack. Tow rating is 2,000 lbs. Payload capacity is 1,550 lbs. It charges from 20 to 100 percent in 4 hours on a home Level 2 charger, or 20 to 80 in about 30 minutes on a DC fast charger. The base truck is a two-door, two-seater pickup. Bolt on the roll bar kit and it becomes a five-seat SUV that looks like a Ford Bronco and a Hummer had a baby. Top spec loaded is around $35,000. Reservations are open right now for $300, they already have 180,000 of them, and Slate is targeting end of Q4 2026 for first deliveries.
