Grief is not always easy to talk about. It can be experienced and processed in many different ways, and its impact can be profound. That’s why this episode of The Future You focuses on having an open conversation about grief and how we navigate it. Host and Men’s Health and Women’s Health Editorial Director Richard Dorment is joined by Amanda Kloots, Women’s Health Executive Editor Abby Cuffey, and Thea Gallagher, PsyD, a clinical psychologist at NYU Langone Health, to explore grief, anxiety, depression, therapy, and the connection between mental and physical health.

Amanda reflects on losing her husband, actor Nick Cordero, in 2020 and how grief has continued to evolve in the years since. She shares how therapy, movement, motherhood, community, and finding moments of joy have helped her learn to live alongside grief rather than simply trying to move past it. The conversation also explores how we may underestimate our ability to adapt to difficult experiences and find ways to move forward.

Dr. Gallagher explains how clinicians distinguish grief from depression, anxiety, and prolonged grief disorder, and why evidence-based treatment matters. She also discusses how lifestyle habits like movement and sleep can support mental health, when therapy or medication may be helpful, and why finding the right clinician can make a meaningful difference.

Together, they explore what it means to move from survival mode toward healing, how to ask for help, and why taking care of your mental health is an essential part of taking care of your whole health.
