The U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Trump administration in a case over President Donald Trump's executive order restricting mail-in voting on Monday. However, it is unclear how much of the order will be implemented before the fast-approaching midterm elections in November.

The court's decision leaves room for additional challenges that could slow Trump's order. The U.S. Postal Service laid out last week how it plans to implement Trump's order, but there may not be much time to impose major changes, with some states ready to send mail ballots to voters in a few weeks.

Three of the court's liberal-leaning justices dissented from the unsigned order.

This case could be one of the multiple voting-related challenges that are before the Supreme Court justices. The Department of Justice had recently filed an emergency appeal asking the court to allow changes to be implemented before the midterms.

President Trump's executive order, which was signed in March, called on his administration to create lists of eligible voters and also ordered the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail ballots only to people that are on those lists.
