The voice that carried Cabo Verde to the world. 🖤

Cesária Évora was more than a singer. She was the soul of morna, the voice of sodade, and one of the greatest cultural treasures our islands have ever given the world.

Born in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cesária spent years singing in local bars before becoming an international icon. She sang in Cape Verdean Creole, performed barefoot, and carried the stories of our people, our islands, our struggles, our love and our diaspora in every note.

Known as the Barefoot Diva and the Queen of Morna, Cesária proved that a voice from a small island could touch millions across the world. From Miss Perfumado to her Grammy-winning album Voz d’Amor, her music opened the door for Cabo Verdean culture on the global stage.

Even after her passing, her voice still brings us home. Her music still connects generations. Her legacy will never fade.
