💜 "Life is beautiful. All that is dark and evil rots away, and beauty triumphs." Those are the words of Dmitri Shostakovich on the philosophical conception of his Symphony No. 8. 

In one of two final concert programs of the 2023-2024 concert season, Music Director Jonathon Heyward leads the orchestra in a dramatic program reflective of the political storm of mid-twentieth-century Eastern Europe June 6, 8, & 9. Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8 followed by a work by his protege Mieczysław Weinberg, the magnificent and at times elusive Trumpet Concerto 🎺 🎺 🎺 featuring BSO Principal Trumpet Andrew Balio.
