The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is cracking down on the cartel-driven firearm threat facing the United States. Nearly 6,000 firearms bound for Mexico have been intercepted by the agency since the start of 2026, according to ATF Director Rob Cekada. He said most weapons being trafficked are ending up in the hands of the Sinaloa cartel and the CJNG cartel.
