On 16 November 1988, a 21-year-old Roberto Baggio stepped onto the pitch at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to make his senior debut for Italy. Facing the reigning European Champions, the Netherlands, Baggio immediately demonstrated the vision and tactical composure that would define his international career.
In the 44th minute, Baggio unlocked the Dutch defense to set up Gianluca Vialli for the match-winning goal, securing a 1–0 victory for Azeglio Vicini’s side.
