Between 1993 and 1995, the established world superstar and the emerging prodigy shared the pitch, a transitional period that ultimately reshaped the future of the Bianconeri.
Initially acting as Baggio’s understudy under Giovanni Trapattoni, Del Piero used the time to study the master’s elite movement and world-class free-kick technique. Because both naturally operated as a trequartista or second striker, they rarely shared the pitch together, but the mutual tactical respect was immediate.
The real shift came during the 1994-95 season. When Baggio suffered a serious knee injury that kept him out for approx 95 days, Marcello Lippi didn't panic—he just handed the keys to the kid.
