Finning efficiency is not about kicking harder — it’s about transferring energy correctly. 🦵🌊

When the kick starts from the hips, the movement travels through the entire leg:

🔥 Hips initiate the movement
➡️ Thigh follows
➡️ Knee stays relaxed
➡️ Lower leg continues the motion
➡️ Ankle stays extended
➡️ Fin loads and releases the energy

The entire leg participates in displacing water, creating a longer and more efficient propulsion phase. The fin becomes the extension of the movement — not the source of it. 🏊‍♂️💨

Now compare this with a knee-dominant kick. ❌

When there is little or no movement from the hips, the knees start leading.

🦵 The knees move forward outside the body’s streamlined profile.
🌊 The effective stroke becomes shorter.
⚡ Most of the force is concentrated on the lower leg and fin.
🧱 Frontal resistance increases.
🔋 More muscular energy is required for less propulsion.

Instead of:

HIP → LEG → ANKLE → FIN → PROPULSION ✅

You get:

KNEE → FIN → ENERGY LOSS ❌

The knee should move — but it should follow the movement, not create it.

In freediving, every unnecessary movement has an energetic cost. As depth increases, small technical inefficiencies are repeated hundreds of times and can become a significant waste of oxygen. 🫁📉

Don’t try to push harder on the fins.

Use your hips, move the entire leg, stay streamlined, and let the fins convert that movement into propulsion. 🌊🤿
