Psychology is fascinating because everyday behaviors often feel like they must have hidden meanings. But popular psychology claims can turn ordinary experiences into dramatic conclusions. Waking up during the night doesn't automatically mean someone is thinking about you, and dreaming about someone doesn't necessarily mean they miss you.
The same applies to body sensations and social behavior. An unexplained ache isn't a reliable message that someone is talking about you. A person smiling at you may simply be friendly, happy, nervous, or enjoying the interaction. Even when you can't stop thinking about someone, there can be many reasons, including memories, emotional significance, familiarity, or unresolved thoughts.

Learning about psychology becomes more useful when we separate interesting ideas from assumptions. Instead of trying to decode every dream, glance, smile, or physical sensation, consider the person's actual behavior and the context surrounding it.

Use psychology to understand yourself and communicate better, not to jump to conclusions about what someone secretly feels.

Curiosity is valuable. Critical thinking makes it even more valuable.
