What’s a window from a 1930s exhibition doing in an Oxford college library? 🪟🌍

At the heart of regentsparkcollegelibrary is a striking glass window featuring a stylised map of the world.

Created for the 1938 Glasgow Empire Exhibition, the map reflects how the world was represented at the time, look closely at the north of the UK and you’ll also spot an unusual landmark: the Tait Tower. Built specially for the exhibition in Glasgow, the tower stood more than 90 metres tall before being dismantled the following year.

But there’s still a mystery surrounding the window. We don’t know exactly where it was displayed at the exhibition or how it later found its way into regentsparkcollegeox!
