Often times, English loanwords are adapted to fit Japanese pronunciation, where most consonants are followed by a vowel. That’s why McDonald’s becomes Makudonarudo (マクドナルド), potato chips becomes poteto chippusu (ポテトチップス), and big size becomes biggu saizu (ビッグサイズ)—the added vowels, often u, make the words flow naturally in Japanese 🤗
