Cleansing sets the tone for the entire facial. It is the moment I begin to align with my client, slow down my breathing, relax my wrists and shoulders, and prepare for the work ahead.

For a massage focused facial, I always choose a soft, hydrating cleanser. The skin needs to be clean, but it also needs to remain hydrated and comfortable so I can work without pulling or stretching it.

I prefer gentle formulas without an unnecessarily high amount of surfactants. If the skin is suitable for this type of facial, I simply need to remove surface buildup while preserving its natural lipids and keeping the barrier intact.

The massage may come next, but the work really begins with cleansing
