Buccal massage is often spoken about as if it were one specific technique. It isn’t.

Intraoral manual work has been used in different forms and for different purposes. Today, you can find intraoral techniques in aesthetic practice as well as manual and physical therapy approaches to the jaw and surrounding tissues.

And these approaches can look very different.

Some techniques use considerable pressure. Some concentrate heavily on the masseter and other muscles of mastication. Some incorporate stretching and a much more intensive manipulation of the tissues.

I took different approach

I developed my own aesthetic buccal massage after studying other methods and realizing that a stronger approach did not fit my philosophy of working with the face.

My work is extremely gentle. Light does not mean superficial. The intention is to work carefully with the tissues around the jaw and temporomandibular area without forcing them.

I do not believe aesthetic buccal massage should hurt.

I do not aggressively stretch the mouth. I do not work toward the back of the throat. I do not want to trigger a gag reflex or leave the client feeling that they have survived something.

Clients very often tell me afterward, “I feel like I have more space in my mouth.”

For me, that is exactly the feeling I am looking for: less restriction, less holding, and a face that feels softer and more open.

The buccal portion of my treatment never needs to become a long procedure. I generally keep it within about 15 minutes because it is one part of a larger facial method.

Mine technique in Buccal massage is specifically an aesthetic approach.
It is designed to fit into my larger philosophy of gentle manual facial work, where we never believe that more force automatically produces a better result.
