I wrote Every Backpack Has a Story because I kept seeing students walk into
classrooms carrying things no one was acknowledging — and I kept seeing teachers
and counselors who wanted to acknowledge it, but didn’t have a simple, low-
pressure way to do it on day one.

This book is that way.

It’s a 10-minute read-aloud. It comes with an activity and discussion questions. And
it gives every student in your room permission to be a whole person from day one.
