Kathryn Alwin, an industrial engineering senior, dedicated her summer to the Field Engineering Readiness Laboratory (FERL) at the United States Air Force Academy, where she worked on projects in construction, structural design, surveying and materials engineering. Alwin also helped construct Hogans for members of the Navajo Nation, expanding her knowledge of structural design and construction.

Jonas Junquera, an environmental engineering senior, spent his summer working as a Water/Process Engineering Intern for Jacobs. Jonas operated water treatment pilot systems, analyzed water samples and evaluated treatment performance. This work aims to provide clean drinking water to more than 200,000 residents in the Fort Lauderdale area.

Sofia Costa, a chemical engineering junior, studied air pollution and atmospheric chemistry this summer at MIT. Working with researchers in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, she investigated how much formaldehyde forms when isoprene oxidizes in the atmosphere. Using the MIT Environmental Chamber, Costa conducted experiments and compared her results with predictions from a chemical model called F0AM.

Matthew Lopez, an electrical engineering senior, interned at Honeywell Aerospace’s Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) team, supporting qualification and testing workflows for radar and avionics systems. He helped prepare hardware for environmental and electromagnetic testing, assisted with chamber testing and documented RF and EMI/EMC setups while supporting engineers with qualification data and equipment.

Georgia Furman, an electrical engineering senior, interned at Tesla’s Gigafactory Nevada, one of the world’s highest-volume electric vehicle component factories. The experience gave her a deeper understanding of high-volume manufacturing and a firsthand look at equipment performance, reliability and data analysis.

Imeelda Zaya, industrial engineering junior, worked as an engineering intern at BIG DAISHOWA, a premium industrial tooling company in Illinois. She worked alongside a lead engineer on CNC machines, gaining insight into the manufacturing process and how the company’s tools are produced. One
