## Caption

Godspeed, Roman.

ICYMI: the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope—our next orbiting observatory—lifted off on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 30. It is currently on its way to its destination 1 million miles from Earth, where it will change how we view the cosmos and help us to unravel some of the greatest mysteries of the universe.

Roman will finish its journey in about three months, with its first images expected to be released by early 2027. Roman’s 300-megapixel camera will capture surveys of the universe that are so huge and full of detail that you would need a 4K TV as large as 45 city blocks to fully display one.

Did you know that you can adopt a pixel in one of Roman’s first images? Sign up to claim your spot in the big picture of the cosmos—the link is in our bio!
