As families prepare for another school year, strong community support can make all the difference. Throughout August, we're highlighting Caring for Denver grantees that are expanding access to mental health care and creating brighter futures for Denver's children and youth. 

Grantee Spotlight: Rise Above Colorado

Rise Above Colorado empowers young people to lead the way in preventing substance misuse and building healthier communities. By partnering with youth, schools, healthcare providers, and trusted adults, the organization equips teens with the knowledge, skills, and increased access to behavioral health resources.

With support from Caring for Denver, Rise Above Colorado is partnering with Denver Public Schools and Denver Health to expand youth-led substance misuse prevention across Denver. Through the Denver Organizing Committee, students help design and deliver peer-led education on topics including fentanyl awareness, prescription drug misuse prevention, overdose prevention, harm reduction, and accessing mental health services. The initiative also brings prevention programming, family engagement events, and educator resources to pilot schools across the city, ensuring students and their support networks have the tools to promote lifelong health and well-being. As the image of a mural at Morey Middle School demonstrates, Rise Above also uses public art as a community-building and youth engagement prevention initiative.
