More than three years after the #Snowfall finale, FX is launching a fresh chapter with “The Drop,” pivoting from exploring the effects of crack use in the 1980s to depicting the rise of hip-hop in Los Angeles in the 1990s.

In the new series, Wanda Bell (portrayed by Gail Bean) moves to center stage as she becomes laser-focused on making it big in the music business, convinced that the fledgling rap genre can revolutionize American culture.

She enlists her young cousin Lamar Kinsey (portrayed by Asante Blackk), a music prodigy raised by strict religious grandparents, in her quest for stardom.
