New research has found 81% of millennials surveyed drink alcohol, putting them ahead of Gen X at 77% and Gen Z at 74%.⁠

But Gen Z appears to be closing the gap. The generation has gained a reputation for drinking less and opting for healthier lifestyles, with previous figures showing just 66% drank alcohol in 2023.⁠

Researchers say that figure has now risen to 74%, suggesting the idea of Gen Z turning its back on booze might not be quite as clear-cut as previously thought.⁠

Meanwhile, Boomers have become the least likely generation to drink at 71%, despite younger generations traditionally being associated with drinking less.⁠
