The New York Times' Brian Stelter wrote about the shock-blogger's sudden change of heart in fall 2010 with a headline, "Perez Hilton Vows to End Celebrity Insults," under which he credited Hilton as a "master at maximizing publicity for himself and his website" while serving up a "steady online diet of humiliation for his celebrity targets." Hilton, real name Mario Lavandeira, broke the news himself in a YouTube video titled "I'm Going to Be Doing Things Differently," and explained it further in a reflective interview with Out, in which he credited close friend Lady Gaga for supporting the decision to play nice.⁠
