Losing a patient changes your relationship with time.

Working in emergency department, there are moments when you walk out of a room knowing that somebody’s family has just changed forever. Then the rest of the hospital keeps moving, and so do you.

Those moments have made me think differently about how easily we postpone our own lives.

We wait until work is quieter. Until we have more money. Until somebody else approves. Until we feel more confident. Until the timing is perfect.

And sometimes we forget that time itself was never guaranteed.

This is not a message to live recklessly or pretend responsibilities do not matter. It is simply a reminder to notice the parts of your life you keep putting off.

Call the person you miss. Take the trip when you can. Say what needs to be said. Make time for the people you love. Pursue something that matters to you.
There are many things in life we cannot control.

How intentionally we use the time we are given is one of the things we can.
