Can you make your drawings float? It looks like magic, but it’s really a tiny lesson in water tension and hydrophobic ink. How it works: Water molecules are strongly attracted to one another, creating surface tension on the water’s surface. Dry-erase ink, meanwhile, contains hydrophobic ingredients that don’t mix well with water. When you slowly lower the spoon into the water, the water molecules are more strongly attracted to one another than to the hydrophobic ink. As water slips underneath the solid ink film, it can separate the drawing from the smooth spoon and carry it onto the water’s surface. 🔥 CHEAT SHEET: 1. Use a smooth, completely dry spoon. 2. Let the drawing dry completely before dipping. 3. Keep your design simple and connected. Very thin lines and tiny details can break apart more easily. 4. Use clean, still water for the best results. 5. If your drawing doesn’t float, clean and dry the spoon completely and try again. CAUTION: Patience is key! Make sure the spoon is completely clean and dry, then dip it into the water very slowly.
