Georgia swept George Washington in straight sets to complete a perfect opening day at its own Classic City Clash, following an earlier sweep of North Florida on the same day at Stegeman Coliseum.

The win capped the first day of the six-match round-robin tournament in the 10th season under head coach Tom Black, the 48th season of volleyball in Athens. Georgia's dominant showing on day one, sweeping both North Florida and George Washington, set the tone for a tournament in which the Bulldogs would finish 3-0, closing out the next day with a four-set win over Furman.

The loss dropped George Washington to 0-1 to open its season. George Washington also fell to North Florida the following day at the same tournament, finishing the trip winless. Georgia improved to 2-0 on the day and 3-0 for the weekend, moving on to the inaugural Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge in West Lafayette, Indiana.
