8th-ranked Texas A&M secured its first win of the season, downing Grand Canyon 3-1 by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 15-25, 25-13 in the opening match of the Texas A&M Invitational at Reed Arena, the defending national champions' home opener of the 2026 campaign.

Texas A&M came out firing, opening the first set with a 6-0 run behind the serve of Gabi Rodriguez to seize early control. Middle blocker Eliza Sharp was the offensive standout of the match, spearheading a dominant showing with 12 kills on a blistering .647 hitting percentage while adding six blocks at the net. The Aggies carried that momentum through the second set as well, but Grand Canyon came out with far more fight in the third, flipping the script to win it 25-15 and forcing a fourth set. Texas A&M regrouped and closed out the match decisively, 25-13, to seal the win.

Megan Fitch also had a standout day for the Aggies, recording her first career double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. The win snapped a two-match skid for Texas A&M to open the season, following losses to Louisville and SMU at the AVCA First Serve event in Milwaukee the week before.

The win improved Texas A&M to 1-2 on the season as the Aggies opened their home slate at Reed Arena. Grand Canyon fell to 1-2 with the loss, having also opened the Invitational against Arkansas State earlier that same day. Texas A&M continued the Invitational later that evening against Arkansas State, before closing out the tournament against Cal Poly the following day.
