Southeastern Louisiana 2, Ole Miss 3
Gillom Athletics Performance Center, Oxford, MS. August 28, 2026

Ole Miss opened its 2026 season with a dramatic reverse sweep, rallying from a two-set deficit to beat Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 in a wild season opener at the Gillom Center, kicking off the Bre Henry era's fourth season with a taste of both frustration and resilience.

Ole Miss actually started well, jumping ahead 4-1 early behind the swings of newcomer Jorda Crook. But the first set turned into a tug-of-war, featuring 16 ties and three Rebel set points that slipped away, before Southeastern Louisiana stole it 28-26. The second set was worse for Ole Miss, as the Rebels had more errors than kills in a lopsided, uncompetitive 25-17 loss that forced head coach Bre Henry to dig into her bench.

The turning point came in the third set, when freshman Jaidyn Hartsfield checked in for her collegiate debut and immediately changed the Rebels' energy, her first kill helping spark an 8-3 run that got Ole Miss back on track. Crook and fifth-year veteran Shayla Meyer took over from there, combining for 15 kills in the fourth set alone to force a decisive fifth set. Meyer, starting for a fourth straight year, was everywhere in the finale, contributing across blocking, digging and kills, while junior libero Cameron Bradley anchored the defense with a then-career-high 29 digs, stepping into the void left by program dig-record holder Cammy Niesen.

Crook, a two-time All-AAC selection at her previous school, UAB, made an immediate impact in her Ole Miss debut, finishing with 19 kills and three service aces that repeatedly shifted momentum in the tight contest. Fellow transfers Tenesyn Frye, who started at setter, and Nina Moorer, a fifth-year middle blocker from Texas State, also saw extended action in their first outings as Rebels.

The win improved Ole Miss to 1-0 to open the season, while Southeastern Louisiana fell to 0-1. Ole Miss continued the Ole Miss Invitational the next day against Northern Arizona, a match that saw the Rebels drop the opening set again before rallying.
