LSU volleyball opened its 2026 season with a thrilling five-set victory over Wake Forest, escaping with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 17-15 win in a back-and-forth season opener that improved the Tigers' all-time home-opener record to 42-9.

LSU took the first set 25-20 behind multiple strong offensive runs, though service errors kept the Tigers from truly running away with it; they finished the set having out-hit Wake Forest .323 to .062 despite seven service miscues of their own. Wake Forest answered in the second set, riding a 6-1 run through the middle to even the match at 25-22. LSU pulled off a dramatic comeback in the third, rallying from a 17-12 deficit to steal the set 25-23 and retake the lead in the match. Wake Forest forced a decider by winning the fourth set 25-23, setting up a tense fifth set that LSU closed out 17-15 to secure the win.

Senior outside hitter Jurnee Robinson was the story of the match, exploding for a career-high 34 kills and breaking into the top 10 in LSU program history for career kills, moving into ninth all-time with 1,386. Right side Tireh Smith added nine kills, and middle blocker Angelina Lee chipped in eight of her own. For Wake Forest, graduate right-side hitter Ryleigh Whitekettle turned in a career night with an 18-kill, 10-block double-double, setting a new personal best in blocks and matching her career high with six digs.

The win improved LSU to 1-0 on the season under head coach Tonya Johnson, while Wake Forest dropped to 0-1. LSU continued its home tournament the next day against Incarnate Word, while Wake Forest moved on to face other tournament opponents on the road.
