Vanderbilt volleyball opened its 2026 season with a 3-0 sweep of Charleston, winning 25-14, 25-20, 25-11 while setting a new program record with 51 kills in a three-set match, hitting an efficient .427 as a team.

The Commodores set the tone immediately, posting 18 kills on a .412 hitting percentage in the opening set to run away with it 25-14. Vanderbilt kept the pressure on in the second, adding 17 more kills to close it out 25-20, before delivering its most efficient set of the night in the third, hitting .593 with 16 kills to finish off the sweep 25-11.

Reese Animashaun led the offense with 10 kills, adding two service aces and nine digs for a well-rounded night on both sides of the ball. Maya Witherspoon added nine kills, and Kayla Dunlap chipped in seven kills while hitting a blistering .667. Setter Avery Scoggins ran the attack with 36 assists as Vanderbilt placed four players at seven or more kills.

Defensively, Elli Kinney paced the back row with 11 digs, while Animashaun added nine of her own. At the net, Vanderbilt tallied seven team blocks, with Rachel Ogunleye and Samantha Wunsch each contributing two block assists. Vanderbilt also picked up three total aces, holding Charleston to a .134 hitting percentage and committing just two attack errors in the decisive third set.

The 51-kill outing set a new program benchmark for a three-set match, kicking off the Commodores' season on a high note. Vanderbilt stayed home at Memorial Gymnasium the next day to face Memphis, completing a perfect opening weekend.
