Fashion designer John Galliano has cancelled his highly anticipated retrospective, John Galliano: Horizons, originally scheduled for May 2027 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in New York.

The exhibition was set to explore more than 40 years of Galliano’s career, from his Central Saint Martins days to his work at Dior and Maison Margiela. However, its announcement in July reignited controversy over his past antisemitic and racist remarks. In 2011, Galliano was dismissed by Dior and convicted in France of making public racist and antisemitic insults.

In a statement today, Galliano acknowledged the harm caused by his past remarks, particularly to Jewish and Asian communities, and said that “meaningful atonement is not achieved through an exhibition... It is a continuing responsibility, demonstrated through listening, learning and one’s conduct over time.”
