The Hidden Opponent teamed up again this summer with southbronxunited to educate 55 middle school student-athletes through various six week courses centered around mental well-being. The summer curriculum included interdisciplinary and project-based courses on identity and belonging, sports psychology, and a special collaboration course with robyn_athletic  on body confidence, leadership, and design thinking for female athletes. 💪🧠

Campus Captain alumni Leah Iglesias and Alexa Ligouri, and current Campus Captain, Brielle Bell visited South Bronx United over the course of the summer to help lead workshops, some of which our Campus Captains planned and executed themselves! The SBU students also loved learning from Leah about her professional soccer career, talking to Brielle about the goalkeeper mentality, and playing a fun reflective game with Alexa, a US Soccer referee, on the importance of managing emotions during competition. Our incredible Campus Captains took the time out of their summers to support the development of the next generation of student-athletes — mental health leadership in action! 💚

South Bronx United’s Social Work Program Manager, Ariel Deitch, noted that the partnership this summer “provided a shared language and reference that the players often brought into individual counseling sessions with me and beyond.” Our Executive Director, Leeann Passaro, was able to attend the project showcase day with Sara Falkson from Robyn to celebrate the students’ great work.
