## Caption

Henrietta Hill Swope (1902 –1980) earned a Masters in astronomy from #Radcliffe college. 

In 1952, she worked (through the Carnegie Institution) with the Hale Telescope at Palomar Observatory, California. 

Although hired as a research assistant, she worked independently, work that helped to measure the size of the Milky Way.
